Learning Through Practice: Isaac’s Student Placement Journey at SAVVY

Exploring diverse exercise physiology methods and client care at SAVVY

Isaac, an Exercise Physiology Masters student from the University of Wollongong, recently completed his five-week student placement at SAVVY, where he gained valuable hands-on experience in exercise rehabilitation. Studying to become an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP), Isaac spent his placement in a supportive environment with the SAVVY team, who welcomed him and encouraged him to explore new exercises and ideas to implement in his practice.

Reflecting on his time at SAVVY, Isaac shared that the “SAVVY Difference” lies in the team’s genuine care for every client’s health and the high-quality service they deliver. Isaac enjoyed the variety of clients he worked with, from older adults to clients with specific neurological disorders. With a particular interest in Parkinson’s disease, he found it rewarding to support clients in the PD Movers Clinical Class, as well as 1:1 sessions, as he saw firsthand the positive impact it has on their lives. The smiles and gratitude from clients, especially the seniors, made each day memorable and reinforced his passion for allied health.

Isaac’s placement also introduced him to an array of treatment modalities at SAVVY, including VR-assisted therapy, Reformer Pilates, strength and conditioning, and creative exercise prescriptions tailored to balance training. These innovative tools broadened his perspective on exercise physiology and highlighted the diverse ways SAVVY helps clients achieve their health goals.

One of Isaac’s standout experiences was the freedom and trust his mentor, also named Isaac, gave him to implement his ideas and approach to client care. This mentorship not only boosted his confidence but also guided him in refining his strategies for client success.

Isaac’s placement at SAVVY was an invaluable step in his journey to becoming an AEP. His time here strengthened his skills, enriched his understanding of diverse treatment methods, and deepened his passion for helping clients reach their potential through exercise physiology. SAVVY is grateful to have been part of Isaac’s journey, and we look forward to seeing where his career takes him.

Congratulations, Isaac, on completing your student placement. It was a pleasure having you in the clinic!
