Your ultimate guide to Maguire & McInerney Survivor Season 27

With just 10 days to go until Survivor Season 27, it’s time to start fundraising, booking into classes and getting ready for jam-packed fitness festivities. 

This guide covers everything you need to know about this year’s Survivor event. Find out how to fundraise for Motor Neurone Disease research, how to book into sessions, how points will be distributed and how to stay safe whilst having fun. Plus, find out what to expect in each session with our handy class descriptions.

How to raise money for Motor Neurone Disease research

Fundraising is its own competition, with the goal of raising as much money as possible for Motor Neurone Disease research. There are two ways you can fundraise:

1. Donate money to your Team’s fundraising page
This is the easiest way to raise funds. Simply donate money to your Team’s fundraising page to contribute to Motor Neurone Disease research.

2. Set up a personal fundraising page
Go the extra mile and create your own personal fundraising page. The person who raises the most money will win a major prize!

Step 1: Click on your team below

Step 2: Click the “I want to fundraise for this” button at the top of the page to create your own individual fundraising page

Step 3: Fill out personal information and click Continue

Step 4: Complete Account setup following confirmation email

Step 5: Click “Preview Fundraiser Page” and share your Campaign URL with family and friends to start fundraising. Have fun and good luck!

Important session information for Survivor participants

  • The Survivor Opening session is compulsory – you will receive your Survivor singlet at this session. If you cannot participate, please arrange for someone to collect this for you.  
  • Singlets not picked up will be available for re-sale at $10.00 each
  • Sign into your sessions via the SAVVY App
    • The SAVVY app is available in IOS and Android
    • All Survivor sessions are ready to sign into now. 
    • If you are not a SAVVY member, you can create your own account in the app. You will then be able to sign into all Survivor sessions.
  • Each session has been split into 3 colours – only sign into your Team colour
  • Please bring a mat, towel, water and sunscreen to every session
  • Bring a mat to the Yoga session.
  • If for any reason you cannot make a session you have signed into please ensure you sign out or a cancellation fee will apply.
  • Your Team Captains will conduct a roll call at the start of each session.
  • Please arrive at the session up to 15 min before the advertised start time. Sessions will start exactly on advertised start time.
  • Rules for each event will be clearly explained at the beginning of each session, you must listen carefully.
  • POINTS are awarded for the following;
    • Attendance
    • 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for each challenge/event
    • Receipts from Sponsor Spends
    • Fundraising (both team and individual)
  • Team members must play fair in all challenges. 
  • Team members must be supportive of each other at all times. Encouragement will enhance motivation

Participants are encouraged to spend with our sponsors to earn points for their team.

Sponsor Spends start Monday, 27 January!

Every dollar spent with a sponsor earns your team 1 Sponsor Spend point (unless otherwise stated). Make sure you collect your receipts and give them to your Team Captain at each Survivor session. The Sponsor Spend point system is a competition of its own. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place awarded. These placings will then contribute to the overall scores.

Participants will also receive an exclusive goodie bag on Friday 31 January with a collection of offers from our sponsors.

  • Participants must take care when completing challenges to avoid injury. First Aid will be provided if necessary.
  • SAFETY COMES FIRST: please do not jeopardise the safety of yourself or others.
  • Hydration during exercise is very important. Please bring a full water bottle to every session.
  • Sun Protection: ‘Slip, Slop, Slap, Seek, Slide’. Ensure you wear sunscreen and a hat to protect yourself from the sun, even on overcast days.
  • Whilst exercising, it’s important to have the correct type of clothing such as trainers/joggers, loose lightweight clothing that allows you to move freely and your SAVVY Survivor singlet.
  • If you have any existing injuries or are recovering from any injuries, please ensure you report these to your Team Captain. Some exercises may need to be modified.
  • Should you be injured during any of the Survivor sessions please report these immediately to your Team Captain. Your safety comes first!
  • Be considerate of the public: There will be a high number of participants this summer, please ensure you follow all of our regular SAVVY rules when using public areas such as remaining in single file if travelling between locations and always follow instructions from SAVVY staff. Please watch, look and listen when on or around roads and car parks.
  • Please be mindful of those around you when using any equipment.
  • If you are not sure how to use any of the equipment properly, please ask your Team Captain. Incorrect use can result in injury.
  • We will be operating outdoors with maximum numbers, please ensure we leave our environment as we found it. Ensure you dispose of your rubbish appropriately and treat council property with respect.

Survivor Season 27 Session Descriptions

SURVIVOR OPENING

Thursday 6 Feb 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM

Join us to officially open Survivor Season 27. Learn all about our chosen charity and how you can make a difference. Meet your teammates and Team Captains, collect your Survivor singlet (if you signed up during early bird registrations) and get moving! 

What to bring:

  • Active-wear, drink bottle, sunscreen…everything you need to get active outdoors.

BEACH OBSTACLE

Friday 7 Feb 6:00 AM – 7:00 AM

Get ready to get down and dirty. This session combines strength, endurance, and agility with the natural challenge of sand and surf. Wear your activewear and bring a towel. 

YOGA IN THE PARK

Friday 7 Feb 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM

Enhance your flexibility, balance, and strength with Yoga in the Park. This session features a structured flow of poses and stretches, designed to improve joint mobility, release muscle tension, and support recovery. Perfect for aiding performance in all Survivor sessions, this class prepares your body to move efficiently while helping to prevent injuries. Bring your mat.

LIGHTHOUSE RUN

Friday 7 Feb 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM

Put your team work to the test with this fun Lighthouse relay. You will need to identify the various skills in your team and work together to get to the finish line. Bring your running shoes

Hawks vs Kings

Friday 7 Feb 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM

Experience the excitement of a Hawks vs. Kings basketball showdown at WIN Entertainment Centre! At halftime, three players from each team will be handpicked to showcase their skills in an epic competition. Spots are limited, so buy your ticket now for just $30 and be part of the action!

SURVIVOR ATHLETICS

Saturday 8 Feb 7:30 AM – 9:30 AM 

Step back in time to an old-school athletics carnival with some twists. Come along to the Kerryn McCann Athletic Centre at Beaton Park, and put your athletics skills to the test.

Go all out and deck yourself head to toe in your team colour – the bolder, the better! Let’s see who can bring the most team spirit!

SURVIVOR FUNDRAISING BALL

Saturday 8 Feb from 7:00 PM

An evening of elegance, entertainment, and community spirit to raise funds for the University Of Wollongong’s Yerbury MND Research Fund. Enjoy a delicious 3-course meal and a 4-hour premium beverage package while helping to raise funds for this important cause. The night will be filled with exciting fundraising activities, including a raffle, lucky door prize, and live auction. Your support will make a difference.

Cost: $150 per person or $1,500 per table.
